Master Bedroom Reno: Inspiration & Floor Plans

Jan 7, 2015

We still have a lot of smaller sized projects going on, but we're now also in the process of planning our big master bedroom/ensuite reno. Nick and I aren't tackling this one ourselves, we're bringing in some experienced carpenters and home builders to make it all happen.

Currently, the master bedroom has a half bath ensuite. It's extremely small, has poor storage and well...it's only a half bath! So we've decided to remove the wall between the master bedroom and the second bedroom to make one large master suite. We'll be creating a new master ensuite within the enlarged space, along with a walk-in closet. It's kind of hard to explain in writing, so hopefully these images will help.

After Reno:

Once the reno is complete, the current ensuite/half bath will actually be a part of the main second floor bath, as we're expanding that as well (more to come on that another time!).

Since we'll basically be starting with a blank slate for the ensuite (save for any hinderances that might pop up once the reno & demo starts), there's a lot to consider! Here are some photos I've been referencing  as inspiration and to help me get the creative juices flowing.

As you can tell, I'm leaning towards a light and bright space. Some of the photos have hardwood, which I'm not a fan of in bathrooms, we will definitely be having tile.  I love bathtubs by the window but I'm not certain about what finish to go with for the taps, towel racks & lighting. I can't conclude on the type of vanity yet either, should it sit completely on the floor or should it stand on legs with room underneath?Like I said...so much to consider!

I've compiled a list of must-haves though, which include:
  • Towel warming rack :)
  • STORAGE STORAGE STORAGE
  • Soaking tub
  • His & her sinks
  • Vanity area (for hair and makeup)
Have any of you gone through a bathroom reno/design? Would love to hear your tips!
